Toronto Women’s 10K

I did it!

My first 10K race went mostly well, I had a strong pace for the first 5k, then my heart rate monitor went wonky (my heart rate was at my usual 148-158 range than dropped to under 100). And I still don’t really know if my heart actually slowed down or if it was my monitor – but my money is on the monitor… It did freak me out though so I slowed down my pace.

My time was 64 minutes, I really wanted to crack 60 minutes, but, given that my quickest time before the race was 1:12, I was super happy.

(Anyone know a sports bra that has some sorta super nipple hider?)

Toronto Women’s Half Marathon and 5K

Yesterday I got up early, really early, 5am. Really, I just didn’t sleep on Saturday night.

But it was all for a good cause, I spent yesterday morning volunteering at the Toronto Women’s Half Marathon, sorry no pics, I forgot my camera!

It was absolutely inspirational to see a sea of women running, and has really got me excited about training for August’s 10K ! I’m also seriously considering training for next years Toronto Women’s Half Marathon, but, I want to get to 10K first.

Today I have my follow-up appointment with the surgeon dude that removed my appendix, hopefully he will clear me to return to running and hot yoga (because I started last week anyway!).

I’m an addict

Wow. First run ever and I am totally hooked.

The weather was perfect, sunny and 8 degrees, I was fueled up on overnight oats and a small Tims, and as I walked to my corral I was nervous.
Really nervous.

What was I doing?
I failed gym in grade 9, I couldn’t run a lap if my life depended on it. I almost felt like pulling out. But, I had come all that way, I dragged my husband and two babies to high park, all I had to do was finish the race.

And I did it. I finished the 5k, with a time of 33:58, placing in the dead middle of my age/gender category. A full minute faster then my previous PR.

I am hooked, it was bar none one of the best feelings of my life.

Next run, womens 10k in august, and I can’t wait!
